SR9 Performs Well at Spa But Accidents Thwart Rollcentre Team.

Radical SR9 - LMS 1000km - Istanbul, Turkey - April 2006

Gentleman driver, Gregor Fisken replaced racing professional Joao Barbosa for the Spa race so it was up to Martin Short, Tim Greaves and Gregor to do the business.

The Rollcentre Racing SR9 was quick in practice posting a 2 minute 11.3 seconds in the third practice which was 7th quickest overall and was only pipped by Michael Vergers in the P2 class.

Things started going pear-shaped in qualifying however with Martin Short staying on wets when intermediates were the way to go. A disappointing 7th row on the grid was the result.. Even so a superb show for a gentleman driver team.

Martin Short reckoned Joao Barbosa would have knocked 2 seconds off his time which would have put the Radical right up the front.

Come the race, after an extended pace car session, Martin charged through the field up to eighth place overall putting in a storming 2 minute 10.5 second lap. But an argument with a gravel trap ended up costing the team considerable time repairing the front end.

Gregor Fisken took over on the two hour mark and put in some good times until an errant Porsche punted the SR9 in the rear, at the Bus Stop which resulted in retirement and an early bath for Tim Greaves.

Phil Abbott was circumspect, "The SR9 ran faultlessly and a non-professional driver team put in race laps only just shy of the Synergy and RML Lolas. Martin lapped a second quicker than superstar Michael Vergers was able to in the Courage! So not a bad showing from a Radical perspective”
