Radical Euro Masters Series Action at Monza - 29th April 2008

Race start
A grid full of Radicals provided a fantastic spectacle at Monza this weekend.  Qualifying was a close run thing with Bernd Rubig grabbing pole in his SR8 from Francesco Sini’s SR8LM by  two-hundredths of a second.  Nigel Greensall and Massimo Vignali were the leading SR5 team with Wayne Douglas/Jeff Collier at the front of the SR3 pack.

An early safety car period and several pit stop infringements shuffled the pack but it was Bernd Rubig and Jurgen Gullert who stormed off finishing on the top two steps of the podium in race one.

The SR5 of Mindaugas Neliubsys grabbed third overall and first in class with the SR5 of Massimo Vignali and Nigel Greensall 4th.

5th overall and first in SR3 1500 class was Horst Felbermayr Jnr while 1300 honours went to Andreas Swartz/Nicolas Powilewicz who finished an amazing 8th overall.

Series organiser Christian Drop’s co-driver Dominik Ruff unfortunately ended his race in the barrier seven laps from home.

Jean Yves Mallat and Manuel Castro could not start race two because of a huge accident in their SR8LM. The chassis and crash box did their job, and Manuel walked away unharmed.

Race two got off to a hectic start with mayhem at the first corner.  The SR3 of Sean McInerney and Michael McInerney seemed to be in the thick of it. But Bernd Rubig, Jurgen Gullert and Francesco Sini escaped and battled the whole race for SR8 honours.  Massimo Vignali and Nigel Greensall grabbed SR5 honours and Wayne Douglas and Jeff Collier managed 5th overall and first in the SR3 1500 class.

Jay Boyd did a superb job to win the 1300 class, while his team mate Thomas Rudel was excluded for ignoring a “stop, go” penalty for a pit stop infringement.

The Radical European Masters circus moves to Spa Francorchamps on May 9/10/11 where a record grid is expected to carry on the 'Radical Euro Masters' success story.
