Radical Cup 2007 - Rounds 12 & 13 - Thunderhill Raceway
- 06 November 2007

Stunning performance by the SR5 in 12-hours of Magny Cours
As we come to a close on the 2007 season, 3 drivers are in contention for the Championship. A tie between Tim & Matt, with Dave not far off. Thunderhill adds some extra pressure with the limited testing so you must get up to speed quickly. All this combined with having race prepared street cars on track with us made things very exciting. One warm-up session, then straight into qualifying.

As promised the racing was intense and very entertaining for the crowd. There was dicing for position all over the track. Our top 3 in points were all running together for the first half of the race. Dave was leading and Matt was second when they caught lap traffic. Dave passed in the middle of the chicane and made contact with a Honda. As the other cars checked up, Matt ran into the back of a slower car and spun off the road. He was unable to continue. Dave and Tim then had a battle until Dave had a big shunt with a Camaro in turn 9. Dave was unable to finish and Tim won making it look like the points battle might be over.

Dave’s car came back on the wrecker. It looked to be in pretty bad shape. As we realized we had all the parts to repair it the concern became the amount of time. Thunderhill closes the gate a 6:00 pm no matter what. After the car was repaired Dave mentioned how easy it was to fix it. Once I saw the photo I realized why he said that. Sunday morning had the same early morning warm-up but the track configuration changed adding in the cyclone.

On the start Don Simons got the jump into turn 1. As the field rounded the corner, everyone made it through clean. Lap after lap positions were changing through the top 6. This was the closest race the Radical Cup had ever seen. Tim Day tried to pass Don in Turn 9 and slid off the road. Bob Majorino also went off which allowed Matt, Dave & Cody to pressure Don. Craig Oka, running right with the lead pack had a throttle cable break and had to pull off.

As they rounded the final corner it was still anyone’s race. At the checkered it was Dave Tweedlie with his rehabbed Radical just inching out Matt Maddox. It’s the most Duct tape and bailing wire to ever cross the finish line first. Great job Dave on a well deserved victory. Tim Day had an axle break as he exited the final corner and coasted to the finish. Tim’s misfortune once again means the Championship is going to come down to the last race at Spring Mountain.

Thunderhill was a great time and the best race to date. Join us for the final 2 rounds of the Championship at Spring Mountain Raceway on Nov. 17, 18.

Thank you to everyone for a great event and we will see you next time!!!
