Tim & Stuart Celebrate TBR's first podium
As the Swedish Radical teams showed up at Sturup Raceway last weekend for the penultimate round of the championship, you could really feel the excitement in the air!

The weekend started on Friday with three practice sessions, all of them in the wet. Front-runner Niclas Lovén and mechanic Ian Jacobs were once again struggling to get the car to handle in the damp conditions. Neither Emma Kimiläinen or Christian Kronegård did any testing on Friday. Emma due to her final exam in school and Christian because he didn’t want to put any extra wear and tear on the car.

Saturday started with the official test session. It was now dry but the conditions where otherwise really cold and very windy. A very cold Ian Jacobs commented, “why do you keep bringing me to this freezing-cold country when back in the UK my girlfriend is sunbathing right now”. His Swedish ‘Viking’ mechanics just laughed at the frozen Englishman’s whining. Fastest in the session was Micke Ohlsson followed by Emma and Kronegård. Lovén ended up with 7th place on the grid.

Anders “Big Daddy” Gabrielsson from Radical Sweden was also was racing this weekend in his first race of the season said, “I got the chance to race this weekend and I am really excited about it! I want to see how fast “my” Radical racing class really is and my goal is to finish in the top ten”

By the time of qualifying the sun had started to give both the track (and the frozen British driver) some heat. Qualifying turned out to be very exciting with a long safety car situation in the middle of the session making the times from the early laps the ones to count. Fastest was again Christian Kronegård followed by Micke Ohlsson and Viktor Hallrup who once again showed good pace around the tight Sturup track, as he did the last time the cup was held here.

In the afternoon race 1 didn’t bring as much sun as the morning but the racing was really hot. In the first corner Norwegian driver Aund Njös gave Niclas Lovén a small touch which caused Niclas to spin and hit Mr Gabrielssons car. The red flag came out and the drivers got ready for a restart. Unfortunately Niclas and Mr Gabrielsson had to watch the race from the pit lane. Kronegård took the lead and was followed by Micke Ohlsson, Micke tried some moves on Kronegård but decided that a second place was good enough. Third was Andreas Ebbesson, and Aund Njös forth.

Sunday morning brought rain with it and the race was run on a drying track. The grid was decided from the best lap times in race 1, this meant that Andreas Ebbesson was on pole followed by Emma, Micke and Kronegård. Lovén decided that he would not race in the second race since all drivers have to drop the points from one round of the series.

Micke took the start and went past pole sitter Andreas, Emma got pushed off the track on the first lap and dropped back resulting in a short safety car period.

The restart was taken by Micke, followed by Ebbesson and Njös. Njös later passed Ebbesson and in the final laps Kronegård managed to squeeze himself past Ebbesson. Micke Ohlsson won the race followed by Aund Njös and Christian Kronegård.

Micke Ohlsson Said: “It feels great to win a race, after all the trouble we have had.”

The final at Mantorp Park is going to be extremely exciting with three drivers racing for the overall win of the cup.

Rumour has it that Radical UK's Slim Borgudd is coming to Mantorp with the UK works team to showcase the new PR6.

The Swedish drivers are scared that the PR6 that will have a 1500cc engine.

The factory can confirm that Slim will be driving but it wont be a 1500cc, it will be using two 2.8l 455bhp Powertec V8’s with one motor in the front and one in the back!

It is believed that he is aiming for the track-record at Mantorp and to hit Mach 1 before the braking point after the long straight!

The truth of these rumours will be discovered in two weeks time when the cup rolls in to Mantorp Park.
