RADICAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – AUTUMN 2022
Fresh off the heels of the most successful year in the company’s 24-year history, which saw the new Radical SR10 become the fastest-selling model yet, Radical Sportscars heads into its 25th year stronger than ever with a return to a suite of the UK’s most famous circuits, and the addition of a new season-ending international finale.
The Radical Challenge for Radical SR3 models, featuring the Masters class for the Radical SR8, SR10 and RXC, and the Radical SR1 Cup, are the fastest one-make racing series in the world. The two series will again be run under the auspices of MSVR, and share race weekends with some of the UK’s most prestigious categories.
Radical sports cars have long been recognised as providing a path to Le Mans, and the 2022 calendar has been specifically designed to avoid date clashes with the European Le Mans Series and the Le Mans Cup, paving the way for teams and drivers looking to compete on the world’s biggest prototype stages. Several teams and drivers in the UK Radical paddock also compete at this level and have achieved fantastic success in 2021, and this careful attention paves the way for their continued success in 2022.
The 2022 championship begins at Donington Park National in Leicestershire on the weekend of April 9-10, an historic ex-Formula 1 and Moto GP venue that is a favourite among drivers. As the site of much pre-season testing for the teams and drivers, it is sure to kick the year off in the best and most competitive possible way.
The series resumes on May 21-22 at Brands Hatch GP. Opportunities to race on the full GP circuit are become ever-scarcer as greater London expands, but Radical has again secured its round on the full circuit which is sure to thrill teams and drivers alike.
As spring turns to summer, Norfolk’s Snetterton 300 plays host to round three over the weekend of June 25-26, before the championship journeys to the iconic Silverstone GP circuit for round four, less than a month after the venue hosts the British Grand Prix. Here the Radical Challenge and Radical SR1 grids will again combine, creating one of the largest grids of Radical cars seen anywhere in the world.
The championship then ventures north for its fifth round at Cheshire’s Oulton Park International. In 2021 the venue played host to the non-championship Radical Summer Cup, which was held to fill a gap created by ever-changing international travel restrictions, and it proved so popular that it has earned a place as a championship round. Another favourite among drivers as a circuit that really rewards commitment, it is sure to produce some excellent racing. The season then concludes on the weekend of September 17-18, back at Donington Park, but this time on the full GP circuit.
Radical Sportscars has also announced a special event to be held in autumn 2022 – the Radical World Championship race weekend. This event will give international Radical competitors the opportunity to pit themselves against Radical racers from around the world in an end-of-season showdown at a headline European circuit to be announced.
Radical Sportscars offers its unique Race The World program, which enlists its global dealer network to easily facilitate the participation of international drivers in its global race series, by either shipping their own Radical or arranging the lease of a local car. In 2021 Radical Sportscars welcomed drivers from across Europe, the USA, Australia, and Dubai, to compete in its UK events, and presents opportunities for interested drivers to do the same in 2022.
