Back to the news

After 21 consecutive seasons, the Radical Challenge Championship has more than proven its credentials as the UK’s best established and fastest single-make sportscar championship, and it returns in 2022 for another season of high-thrills racing on the country’s premiere circuits.

Under controlled regulations and with factory sealed engines, the Radical Challenge showcases close, safe, true downforce racing with lap times easily faster than BTCC and GT4 cars. Pound for pound, the Radical Challenge offers the best value and most competitive racing of any premium or sports prototype category in the UK.

Radical’s unique mix of competitive yet friendly racing, factory-backed technical assistance, value for money, and category-leading inclusive hospitality sets it apart as the ultimate championship for drivers looking to have fun while developing their skills in a high-profile series and gaining valuable experience in downforce racing cars.

The series run with the UK’s leading race organiser, MSVR, and shares the bill with a carefully chosen selection of other headline championships including British GT, GB3 and GB4, and GT Cup.

Radical Challenge Championship

The Radical Challenge Championship is a one-make series for the most popular sports prototype racing car, the Radical SR3, running the 1500cc engine. Packed grids of up to 30 cars compete over a two-day race format designed to maximise track time, with a typical programme built around two qualifying sessions and two 25-minute races on Saturday, with a further qualifying session and a 45-minute pitstop race on Sunday. Both days count for equal championship points, so drivers who’ve had an unlucky first day can make amends on the second.

Club Sprint and Club Enduro titles

For those with limited time or budget, the Club Sprint title runs on Saturday only, with Club Enduro running on Sunday only. These competitions allow drivers to compete for honours within the Challenge weekend framework at a lower budget level, with costs carefully controlled to welcome owners of older, factory-standard SR3 models from other series into the Radical family.

Radical Challenge Masters

Radical’s renowned Masters class is back, with the fastest Radicals ever built battling for outright supremacy as the front-running class in the Radical Challenge Championship. Masters is home to the fearsome Radical RXC Coupe and Spyder, and the new turbocharged Radical SR10.

Radical SR1 Cup

The first step on the Radical ladder is the SR1 Cup, the perfect step-up for young drivers progressing from karting into prototype cars, or for new drivers looking to learn downforce and telemetry. The Radical SR1 offers comparable straight-line performance to the Radical SR3, but narrower treaded Hankook racing tyres and less aggressive aero makes the cars more approachable and keeps costs down.

Drivers in the Radical SR1 Cup race on the same weekends at the same tracks as the Radical Challenge, and benefit from the same fully inclusive hospitality and Radical factory technical assistance. A single-day Saturday format features a qualifying session and two 25-minute races (except at the two-day Silverstone GP round) to keep costs down, and SR1 Cup drivers also have the option to compete in Sunday’s qualifying and 45-minute race as a non-championship activity.

The 2022 Calendar

Radical has long been recognised as providing a path to Le Mans, and the 2022 UK calendar has been specially designed to avoid date clashes with the European Le Mans Series and Le Mans Cup.

Radical’s UK season kicks off on March 31 with an exclusive Radical track day on the famous Silverstone GP circuit. With the recent changes at Silverstone, this day may represent the only opportunity to experience Silverstone in your Radical under track day conditions.

The 2022 championship begins at Donington Park National on the weekend of April 9-10, and reunites for round two on the full Brands Hatch GP circuit on May 21-22, a rare experience to race on the full configuration.

As spring turns to summer Radical heads to Norfolk’s Snetterton 300 over the weekend of June 25-26, before the championship heads to the iconic Silverstone GP on July 30-31, less than a month after the venue hosts the British Grand Prix. Here, the Radical Challenge and SR1 Cup grids will again combine, creating one of the largest grids of Radicals seen anywhere in the world.

The two championships head north for a single-day event at Oulton Park International on August 13, before concluding at the Donington Park GP configuration over the weekend of September 17-18.

The grand finale of 2022 will be the first Radical World Championship, to be held on an international circuit in Autumn and bringing together the fastest Radical racers from around the world.
