Guy Martin Conquers NORC in Radical-Tuned Transit

He took on the 90-mile NORC in America in the Sunday evening’s first episode of Speed series 3 on Channel 4. His favourite three-year-old Ford Transit van was fitted with engine and powertrain components usually found in Radical’s flagship RXC range. The Ford EcoBoost twin-turbo engine was developed to produce 692bhp by Radical Performance Engines. These developments raised the van’s top speed from 102mph to in excess of 165mph.

After initial shakedowns and high-speed tests with Radical staff in the UK, the van was then flown to One Motorsports in Las Vegas, a well-known Radical team in the USA for final preparation ahead of the NORC. Entered in the 150mph class, Guy would need to average that speed over the 90-mile course, meaning he had to complete the course in exactly 36 minutes.

In the event Guy averaged 150.7mph, finishing a few seconds faster his target time for 14th overall. Such is the closeness of the competition, the class winner scored within 1/100th of a second of the target time.
