Americans Jim and Ryan Booth Give New SR8 Its Maiden Win

The new Radical 2017 SR8 took its maiden win at the opening round of the 2017 Radical Masters Series in Portimao, Portugal last week. Fittingly it was an American father and son duo, Jim and Ryan Booth, who piloted the car to three podium finishes over the weekend, culminating with an outright victory in race three.

Initially launched at the 2017 Autosport International Show with a pre-production version of its striking new front end, the SR8 launch chassis underwent extensive testing prior to being fitted with revised production bodywork for its first public track debut at Spring Mountain Motor Club near Las Vegas at the beginning of April.

A week later after receiving a warm welcome on America’s West Coast, the car was presented to select members of Atlanta Motorsports Park, and shown off during the opening round of the Radical North American Masters Championship at Road Atlanta.

The car was then sent back to the factory to be prepared for Portimao, where it was run by new Radical team Valour Racing.

On one of the most exciting ‘drivers’ circuits in Europe, the team from South Carolina USA drove a near perfect race weekend. On his first European Masters race at Portimao circuit Ryan secured a qualifying lap that was within two seconds of the fastest LMP3 lap around the same 4.692km circuit.

The next event on the European Masters calendar is the non-championship round at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium as part of the Radical Festival weekend, featuring racers from the UK’s Radical Challenge Champions and guests from North America, the Middle East and Scandinavia. From there the European season continues on to the Hungaroring, Silverstone, and Monza before the season finale at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain.
