Radicals reign Road Atlanta for first North American Masters event

The provisional entry list for the Radical North American Masters championship’s opening round at Road Atlanta, April 7-9, has grown to 26. The large grid sets the stage for a highly competitive season, which will visit the continent’s top tracks and highlights Radical’s continued growth in North America.

Competitors from Brazil, Mexico and Canada will take on the best from every region of the United States, with strong contingents from California, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, Texas and Virginia– the states home to Radical dealers.

The grid features a number of standout drivers including reigning 2016 champions Drew Heffring (SR3 1340), Richard Thomas (SR3 1500) and Jesse Menczer (Masters Class), all of whom ran with Virginia based dealer WISKO Racing last year.

Menczer returns this year supported by Las Vegas team One Motorsports. The twice champion, having also won the Masters Class in 2014, is excited by what’s in store.

“Across the USA, Radical racing has built up considerably over the last few seasons, and with the caliber of the venues this is going to be a special year.

“I’ve looked at other spec series and competed in a few, but nothing compares with Radical. The SR8 is such a visceral experience– open cockpit, so much power, and lap times quicker than just about anything. Plenty would say it’s the camaraderie or the competition but, for me, what keeps me coming back is also the cars.”

As with its European namesake, ‘Masters’ denotes this being the premier series for Radicals in North America, offering a premium experience including hospitality, tented paddock space and social events for all competitors. The spec series is sanctioned by NARRA, with control fuel supplied by Gulf Racing Fuels and tires by Dunlop.

The series spawned out of the highly successful national Radical Cup series backed by Spring Mountain Country Club and Monticello Motor Club (2013–2014) and more recently by Radical’s North American Dealer Network (2015–2016). A network that continues to grow with the appointment of Miami based LMPMotorsports.com as the brand’s official Florida dealer.

Following Road Atlanta, the five round championship visits Watkins Glen, NY (May 12-14), Virginia International Raceway, VA (June 2-4) and Laguna Seca, CA (June 23-25) before culminating in with a high-profile finale at Circuit of the Americas (Sept 1-3), supporting Pirelli World Challenge. Additional non-championship events at Autobahn Country Club (Oct 21-22), Sonoma Raceway (TBA) and Barber Motorsports Park (Nov 19-20) supplement the season.

Registration for Road Atlanta is still open and series information including the entry form can be downloaded here.
